Huge sore looking knob on side of white crested duck's head

Do you think she was attacked or is this a sickness? I've put antibacterial ointment on it. Any other suggestions. She seems to be acting normal but it sure looks painful!

Do you have a drake/drakes? She may have been injured during mating.

It's pretty difficult to see.

Could she have an ingrown feather? My crested duck had that issue, but on near her tail and needed surgery yearly. The feathers would grow under the skin similarly to how a hair would for us. Since a feather is so much bigger it would damage the skin and surrounding tissues on my duck a lot.

Does she have other ducks pulling on that area during mating?

Update- she's fine - she just healed up in a day and then no problems. Yay!!!
