Hughesnet... HIGH SPEED do you have it????

If you receive and send a lot of data, pics etc you use more band width. We got the highest HughesNet Package because hubby does graphics work and maintains our website.

I've had Hughesnet for 2 years now. It's a lot better than dialup but if you exceed bandwidth usage they practically shut you down for 24 hours. The bandwidth is the amount of data you get in a certain amount of time or something like that. I used to exceed it all the time, it's called the "fair access policy"(fap) when they restrict you for exceeding the fap it's actually slower than dial up. We upgraded this year to keep from doing that so much. And yes, the customer service, pardon my french, sucks. You have to talk to someone you can't hardly understand and all they really do it read a script to help you though your problem. Throw them a curve and they're totally lost. Fortunately I have a satelite technition down the road from me and I just call him when there's a problem. He's a 100 times better than dealing with hughsnet directly. All in all I'm satisfied with it but if I ever get the chance to hook up to a fiber optic cable hi speed service I'd drop them like a hot rock.

We have Hughesnet (our family has a small consulting business, so we have a business package that's networked to 5 computers and a printer that we can scan and send .pdf documents from), and our neighbor has WildBlue. I use the computers here and next door all the time, and, personally, I prefer Hughes - the service is MUCH faster (watch the download sizes though - our limit used to be 350 MB in a 4-hour period, but we just renewed our contract, so I'm not sure what it is now). If you exceed your bandwidth limit, FAP (Fair Access Policy) really does shut you down for 24 hours. It stinks, but we've learned not to stream video and music all the time, and we do just fine. When it's cloudy or raining, the neighbor's WildBlue gets infuriatingly slow, while there's really no difference in our HughesNet speed. I know Hughes is pricey compared to WildBlue, but you get what you pay for.

If you ever do need technical assistance with HughesNet, I agree that their customer service in the Philippines sucks. The trick is to request an "advanced technician" right off the bat, and then you'll be connected to a very knowledgeable technician in the United States who's actually comprehensible.

Well so farm I love it. It's so fast. I don't download many things so I think I will be ok. And I know someone that can help me too. So I hope I'm in good shape. BUT I don't like my email page. It doesn't seem like I have a lot of room to see my emails theres a lot of junk at the top of the page and I don't know how to move it. Boy I'll get rid of a lot of junk changing my email address.

Thanks for all your help.

It's funny it used to take 5 minutes to download Fish World now it only takes about 15 seconds.

Thank you for asking this...I am in the same decision dilemma for our new place in KY. Dial-up, Verizon, Hughes Net and Dishnetwork which uses WildBlue. I will call Hughesnet and check them out for packages.

Well after having it 10 days it stopped working. I called and your right customer service sucks. I disconnected it and I'm back on dial up. They told me it will be 3 to 5 busness days before anyone can come out. I tried to called the man who installed it because he said if I have any problems he would be glad to help. Sure he would, you can't even leave a message. What a mess. I guess they won't be getting any refurles (sp) from me. I'M SO MAD.

Oh No! Sorry you are having trouble...... we have had great service through them, as long as you don't try to pay the bill online.

We have downright deluges here in OK and I rarely lose connection.

I would say it is on the slow side, however, and I'm not nearly as happy with the service as others are. The installer strongly suggested we install on a pole in the ground rather than the roof. Within 6 months the thing settled and was then pointing at the side of my house rather than the sky. Called support and told them it wasn't working because of installer error and it was pointing at the side of my house. The lady ran me through 45 minutes of tech help before she came to the conclusion I wasn't getting any reception.

"I think I know why... IT'S POINTING AT THE SIDE OF MY HOUSE!!!"

Because the warranty was up they refused to stand behind the installation. I had to pay to have the installer return and lay a decent floor of concrete the way he should have to start with.

I will be dropping them shortly.
