As far as cleanliness, there is a lot of great info on the BYC "Chicken Learning Center". I don't clean every day, I use the "deep litter method" and I fill up their feed and water every few days. However, if the water gets dirty it is extremely important to clean it out. Until I raised my waterer up higher I had to clean it often.
