Human/Chickens 3 vs Predator 1

Probably stew would have been better...I just couldn't bring my self to shoot her...she was lookin' at me with those big ole black eyes...
I took her about 8 miles into Virginia...I think she was a young female probably trying to find a new territory so I don't think she was imprinted in our area yet. I have been leaving the coop open at night for the last month and I am sure she would have attacked earlier if she had been established in the area.

There was an article here about how squirrels are expected to be major 'raiders' this fall and winter because the late freeze killed off all the acorns of white oaks and there is no acorn crop this year.

It's been SOOOO hot and dry around here, it makes sense that the wild critters are getting more bold and desperate as their usual food sources are more and more scarce.

I'm always expecting to find evidence of a racoon or possum around the coop in the morning. I know we have those around here and my 4' chain link fence around the back yard (where the more secure coop is located) won't keep them away for long once they figure out there is fresh chicken in the coop.

What a sweet sweet man you are. after losing your bird you musta been very angry and it took a real man to realize through the anger that it was only following its instinct.
I'm very impressed

That's ok, tonight I smelled a Skunk. I had my bedroom windows open to let in the breeze and I'm sitting at the computer typing away in this forum and the then SMACK! The smell hits me like a ton of bricks. I went and told my hubby who promptly put on his shoes and grabbed the .22 . About this same time my 14 year old daughter comes walking down the stairs and says "ooooh mom, I smell a skunk. No body to be found alive or dead my husband said. Dunno what happened, but all chickens accounted for and sleeping.

Have y'all ever heard the old wives tale, if you've had a bad summer, your gonna have a bad winter. My grandmama always said you can tell what kind of weathers coming by watching the animals. The animals maybe are just getting prepared for winter, and it's an available food source, even though it's your babies.
