Human predator--rescue some roosters!

I am in the same boat with ya. My roosters are attacking my little red headed daughter but no one else. I have 15 of them...

Talk to the middle schools and high schools. I have... The ag department and FFA are going to take a few off my hands. It is a great learning tool for the kids. Thankfully I will not have to kill any of them. Also, you can put signs up at TSC, your local feed store, and anywhere you can think of. I have sold a couple this way... for only 3 dollars. But still waiting for school to start so that I can get the others taken care of.

Good Luck....

Im not sure that all of them will behave that way....they each should have their own personality. If not, do it humanely tonight. I know you feel justified because of what he did to your daughter ( I would feel exactly the same if it was one of my kids! ), but there is no joy in watching something suffer for doing something that comes instinctually.

I would take care of the issue. It would not be without pain, but it would have to be done.

Are you saying he SHOULD make this animal suffer? You also felt that a hawk should be caught killed for attacking a chicken in another post. Do you really feel this way?

I thought he meant without the pain of having to kill them, as they are pretty, and not inflicting pain on them.

Anyways. I would probally eat them as that's the way of the rooster that becomes agressive. Depending on the number of hens. I would just keep one per pen. Keep the nicest one :p

I'm in agreement with tiffanyh and not to keen on the baseball thing, but as a mother, I know your child's safety and welfare are utmost. Polychickens, perhaps it's time to get out of the chicken(or rooster) business...

Just my two cents! Good luck!

Poly, the fact is, some roosters are mean and others aren't It rarely has to do with how it was raised, and with small kids, you can't risk a chance on her getting hurt again.
If a roo attacks once, it's likely to attack again. Sadly, our little ones (human) frequently act like a predator with the birds, (mine chased them while shrieking with glee....) and the roosters saw her as a threat to the flock.
I have some very tame and social roosters, who were hand raised just like the mean ones. I trust my daughter (ten now) to move safely in the pen and it's been fine.

I have put extra and mean roos on the table, and I've given the occasional flying lesson with my boot.

If I'd had a baseball in my hand, I'd have used it. No foul there.

Good luck with this...and I'm glad your daughter wasn't hurt worse....(a mean roo gave me a black eye once)

If any of my birds attacked my daughter, there would be chicken for dinner for sure!

Don't care about the humane thing... do any of us here actually abstain from eating chicken of any kind?

If not, what's the difference?

There are some people on this site that do not eat meat at all... or even any product from an animal. I am not one of them but do believe that even if the bird is destined to die, give it a quick death by just chopping off it's head. No need to make it suffer and torture it before it dies.

As for baseball thing. If that what it took to keep your child safe from an attack, that's fine. Just if he got injured more than a bruised body and ego, such as if he broke bones or could not walk after it, go ahead and butcher him soon so he doesn't have to suffer.

Animals, especially chickens, are not humans and they don't hurt others out of spite. They hurt things because it is their nature and they are dong what they think is best for their family or flock. They can see other things of their size as a threat so will attack. Granted, they are kept as pets and food so what they don't understand is that it is not acceptable to do such a thing. As soon as I see a dangerous roo or see bad behavior, it hits the stew pot as it cannot be tolerated. Yet. I kill them as humanely as possible. Just off with their heads.

I've had a tempermental rooster for most of this year and I've decided to put up with his blindsided attacks. He has outlived all his predecessors, through ice, wind, and storm. Wild critters have not met his match so far and the only problem I have is warning two-legged visitors to keep their distance from my guard-rooster.

Eating meat does not have to do with being humane. Humane means that the animal was not subjected to prolong suffering in the process of death.

i dont blame you for the baseball at all. my rooster attacked my cousin who is only like 4 feet tall, it freaked her out it kept getting her with its spurs. i happened to be holding a cro-bar at the time and i didnt heasitate to introduce the rooster to it. and the same fate would have come to any human being that would attack my family as well. its not just cause i was bigger than it, i did what i had to do with what i had to do it with. later that day i finished it off with my hatchet meeting its neck. you gotta do what you gotta do to protect people from harm.
