i have some nicely behaved first year birds. Production Rhode Island Reds, Ameracaunas, and Ameracauna x Bantam hens ( no roosters). They like to be petted and tolerate being handled if needed but they seem to have a new trick. Every time I bend down a few of them are always trying to jump up on my back. The first time it happened it was the RIR hens. I was a bit nervous since She is a bit more aggressive. ( one hen will get kind of Roostery by running at me and thumping me like a defensive lineman). Now the rest have decided I a comfy roost. They have roosts inside the coop. We took the outside roosts down for winter. They didn’t want to roost inside even though it was getting down in the 20’s or during cold fall rains. The roost ask night long and I have to boot the out when picking eggs or I have two or three hens wanting to hop on my shoulder.
So is this normal, friendly, or are they plotting to poke my eyes out in hopes of a coop break out?
