Human urine - repellent?

All animals, but especially predators live by the law of the jungle, meaning they live by the claw and the fang. Thus predators are accustomed to running grave risk when hunting and foraging for food..

For instance I seriously doubt that that your husband making water around the coop will deter a coon attack, except and maybe unless the urine is still warm and your husband deposits it in the eyes of the marauding coon. I witch case the coon will soon learn not to allow your husband to stand within 3 feet of him when hubby has his fly open. I fail to see how that will protect your poultry.

About 2 weeks ago I spotted in my security camera my neighbor's dog peed in my garden, 2 hours later a fox came and sniffed the spot then it went away, the fox sniffed the spot when going out of my garden, but it didn't come near it when going into the garden.

This is an old thread and I don't see anyone currently asking for advice but I'll mention two experiences for those that might read this.

A few years back I had a problem with a groundhog. It dug an escape burrow in my garden among the corn. This was not a den where they raise a family but a bolt hole where they can run to if threatened and caught away from their home den. I eventually managed to shoot it but man they are tough to get a good shot. I tried spreading coyote urine in the hole and around it to get it to stop using that hole, but it kept digging it back out when I filled it in. If I used a lot it might keep the groundhog away for a day or two but it didn't take long for it to dig that hole back out. Or maybe it just didn’t come around the day that I spread that coyote urine. That coyote urine, purchased at a local hardware store, was extremely not effective against that groundhog.

I have a certain private area I use to relieve myself when I’m working outside and don’t want to track dirt into the bathroom in the house. That helps keep the wife happy. I use that area very regularly for urine. I had another groundhog dig an escape burrow about five feet away from that area. I regularly trap mice and rats in that immediate area. It’s pretty near my chicken coop. I’ve caught a lot of possum and raccoons maybe 20 feet away from that area. I’ve seen snakes in that immediate area, after rats and mice.

Draw your own conclusions from your experiences and what you read, but in my opinion the effectiveness of urine, human or predator, is highly overrated.

As proven by the two above post urine has almost no repellant ability. It's use (especially when trapping furbearers) is to either mask human odors or to convince the target animal that everything is hunkydory. Spraying urine around only alerts the usual predator suspects to be on the lookout for you especially at such times as they are actively killing your poultry.
