Humes Bartailed anyone?

anymore suggestions on plants to put in? Never really made a planted pen cause I tried it with my peafowl once and they just killed everything(sit beside the plant and out of boredom pick all the leaves off it, dust bathe in the roots etc). Started with it now cause I bought a trio of Mandies and read they are easy on vegetation so I went crazy with planting things.
Sounds like Humes are wonderful birds to keep, but they do not seem very common, why is that?

They are,
Pampass Grass is always a great choice for most any avaiary, as is junipers. You just dont want the tender and tasty one or it's a waste of time.
Also, stuff like logs, tree tops, rocks and stone piles, Elevated perches like logs stood upright anything to break up the avaiary will work wonders.

This is off topic but you say you got a trio of Mandies ? Well, I'm pretty sure, and Aubrey correct me if I'm wrong, that Mandarins only breed in pairs so the exstra female may not have a mate unless you get anouther male, right ?

They are best in pairs yes, some times if you have a lot of them, they'll get the job done in large community pens, but if it like 2 males and 4 females or so, you'll end up often with a lot bad eggs, they do tend to pair pretty tight

Quakin aspen, willows are all good. I planted some crabapples in my bigger pens, and that looks awesome when they are blooming. Willows grow fast so you jus ttrim, and they can take the damage usually that the birds do to them. I live in the desert, so I also use alot of sage.

OH OK That's good to know, I was wondering how you were going to work the 3 that you hatched Aubrey if they all do well and end up being a trio or what ever, but you've probably got connections to get another one if you need one I'm sure. How are they doing ? We need some pics.

but this isn't the Duck forum so you guys go on and keep talking about your pheasants and I'll just sit here and dream until I can get me some. LOL
