Hi, I’m incubating 20 chicken eggs at home (I usually do this each year in my kinder classroom with good success). This year I’m borrowing a different incubator (RCom 20 older model). The humidity was working fine until about day 14. Then it just stopped. I had been told it had issues. So I’ve been adding sponges and trying to keep it up. I’m currently on day 18. I have 4 eggs that wiggle every once and a while, 1 more than others (no pip yet). So I turned the turning off. In order to keep sponges going I have to quickly lift lid and dip them. I’m worried about opening the lid and also how to keep that humidity high with just sponges. Any suggestions?? Temp has been a perfect 99.5 the whole time. I also have a small hygrometer inside to show humidity level.

Is there any room under the eggs? You could put in a tray of water if there is. If you can increase the surface area of the water it will stay higher. Also, what room is it in? If it were me, I would love it to a bathroom and maybe fill the tub with water. Then as it evaporates the humidity inside will go up? Just an idea. Or run a hot shower.

Thanks! There isn’t room under the eggs. I’ve just been lining the outside with sponges. Great idea about the bathroom!! They are currently in my living room, so I’ll try moving them and see if that might help! Thank you, thank you!!
