Humidity Help!

Hello all, I am new to incubating eggs and have a question about my humidity. How do I keep it steady?!? My manual says I should only need to add water every 4 days but I am adding it every 4 hours to keep it steady!!! It will go up to 60 when I add water but then over night will drop to 5%. I have tried a sponge, adding water in the space in the bottom and even putting a little bottle open with water and nothing keeps it steady. Any ideas? Thanks!

Have you ever checked your hygrometer's accuracy? Is the bator in a room with steady temps and away from drafts and wildly changing environment?

Mkm here. I am so new to this & so confused. I have a question about humidity inside the incubator....What is it supposed to read from day 1-25 of incubation, and then it goes up to what percentage during last ck down? I have a Little Giant incubator w heater, fan, and humidity sensor...someone says 25-45% day 1-25, then up to 65%...someone else says 65% day 1-25 then up to 80%... Please help me. Bad experience w first incubation attempt last year...lost electricity over on 23rd day.

I'm assuming these are duck eggs.

You find what works for you. Chickens and ducks generally hatch out at under the same conditions. I prefer 30%, some prefer 45% and still others prefer higher. I'd avoid high humidity incubations. I'd pick something between 30-40% and then watch your air cells for growth. This is a duck pictorial for air cells:
It shows you generally where your air cells should be at what day. If the air cells are too small you know your humidity is too high, so you lower it. If it is too big then your humidity is too lw and you need to higher it to slow down the growth.

At lockdown if you are hands off you can successfully hatch at 65% if you're like me, a meddler and know you are going to be opening the bator during hatch, then shoot for about 75%

HELP! My incubator is on lockdown and the humidity is at 80% is this going to kill them? It is day 18.
