I have a brinsea eco 20. 4 chicks hatched last night with 7 to go. Humidity this morning was reading 88% (then I need to add 7 according to my calibration 25 days ago). I'm really worried the unhatched chicks will drown at this humidity but everyone says to NOT open the bator.

I did open the bator for a split second to pull some empty eggs out becuase OMG there was absolutely NO room in there between the egg carton bottoms, the chicks, the eggs they knocked out of the egg cartons etc.

I know..I know...you're not supposed to...but since my humidity was reading so dang hi, I didn't think it would be an issue. Should I open it again and let some of that humidity out??

I can see if I'm going to do many hatches with more than 10 or so eggs, I'm gonna need a separate hatcher.

I think the humidity got ran up by the wet chicks drying off. That's pretty normal actually.
I'm not familiar with the Brinseas but is there a ventilation plug that you can open to help vent out that moist air without opening the bator?

The vent is fully open. when I left this morning, the guage was still reading 88% (or 95 when adjusted). the only difference is it is laying on it's back instead of propped up due to the chicks being so active.

It just doesn't seem possible to have it that high w/o me noticing any condensation anywhere. My gut feeling is the gauge isn't reading quite right.

(at work now so can't check on the bator....which is probably a good thing)

I bet your chickies will be fine. I've had it go in the high 80's when a bunch of chicks hatched.
Even with the plug out it didn't go down for a long time. There's a lot of moisture in those wet feathers.

I have the Brinsea also and the humidity does soar up when there are wet chicks in there. Don't worry, it will return to normal and go up every time a chick hatches.

Congratulations! You'll have more
