It's right there! I took one look and started laughing.I cant unsee that now!!
I got two Light Brahma day-olds from a high quality local feed store last year. (Can't remember their hatchery) One feathered at a normal rate, the other had some sort of slow feathering mutation and was drastically slower & patchier, but she did catch up months later! I guess that particular feathering mutation? allele? can somehow be used in some sort of sex-linked breeding projects, I think I read somewhere. Different breeds generally have their specific feathering rate, so I was surprised to see that extreme difference in just one breed. Roxy, with the very slow feathering is much smaller full grown than Maxy with the fast feathering, but they probably also have completely different parents. They are all getting quite big and feathering up nicely. Except the chocolate orp Coffee Bean. She seems a little slower to feather than the others. I think orps mature slower tho?
But even if you are allowed roosters where you live, if you hatch, incubator or broody hen, about half of them will be cockerels! If you don't have the stomach to cull your own, you will soon be in big trouble without a way to offload the extras. They'll soon to be deadly to eachother & overbreeding on your hens. In just 2 broods I got 7-too-many little "guys" right now, I think one crowed already, to gift away? Mostly sex-linked with my barred/cuckoo ladies (BPR,CM,COE) & Heritage BCM from Alchemist Farms. The no roosters here is probably the only thing stopping me from getting an incubator at this point!
