I mentioned this many times before... it is my first hatch and I don't know where I am now.
Yesterday, I did lockdown 15 eggs and I put enough water under the bator (in water reservoir) and didn't open it.
The temp is still good and stable (it is still air hova-bator), 102F on top of eggs, but humidity is higher than yesterday, about 80%.
It is too much risk to open the bator now to remove some water, or I have to open it and dump water asap?
I did internet search and some say "never open the bator during lockdown" and some say "humidity is more important, so open and dump water".
I don't know which way I should go.
Please help! I am sitting and waiting for the answers.

Hi there! Do you have a little red vent plug you can take out? That would be better than opening it.......

Does it have a little plug you can remove to get some more ventilation? That should reduce humidity relatively quickly without chilling the eggs.

You really do not want to open that incy during the Lockdown phase......trust me.....it will endanger your hatch--the chicks will get stuck to the insides of the eggs......

Hopefully you'll get some more experienced answers than mine, but this is what I think: The reason for not opening the 'bator is to not let the humidity drop.. If you need to decrease the humidity, I think you need to open it! I'm not sure, but it sounds like 80% is way too high. I try tor 60 to 65%
Good luck!

Thank you for the quick answers!
I just removed 2 red plugs, hope humidity goes down fast.
Thanks again!

That should do the trick. Keep an eye on it, it should creep down over the next couple of hours, somewhat dependent on the humidity in your house.

Keep an eye on it....removing one plug might be enough.....

Good luck to you!

i could be wrong. this is my 1st hatch. but i opened mine a couple times at the beginning of lockdown to take out a wet sponge etc. to decrease my humidity. it was before any pips....but once you get a pip....i wouldn't open it. i don't THINK you can shrink wrap a chick unless they've pipped already. is that right? somebody correct me if i'm wrong, cuz i really am not sure. i just assumed that if they had NOT pipped (meaning...not ONE egg in there has pipped) then it's ok to open and quickly do adjustments to humidity.

Well, I removed two red plugs 5 hours ago, and my digital hygrometer says it's still 80% humidity!
I think my hygrometer is wrong...
I just filled 2 water reservoir. Now I am going with mother's instinct!
(I didn't open bator!)
