Humidity Obsessed

I waited a few hours, then peeled away the healed membrane, and this is what I found beneath!!!

I am so proud of this little chickie! Go Hope, GO!! :DDD

As I was leaving for work this happened: Ignore the fact that the hatching egg say 15... Its number 16 - you think they would know to stay in order :lau The other 2 have pips I could see before the resting fluffy but pushed the over. I may get 100% :weee At 88.889% I am pretty gosh darn happy
Yaaay :) such beautiful babies!

I came home from work with my hatch completed.

Out of 18 mutt eggs from a crazy chicken lady I ended up with 17 fluffy butted chickens. A 94% hatch rate on my first try was a greater feat than I could have imagined.

I learnt so much from BYC. I read all four billion eight hundred and seventy six million posts in the thread hosted by sunshine sally. kudos to you Sally for your dedication to the site but also to the hundreds of people over the years posting here. I truly feel I learnt from others mistakes.

Now I know there is bad luck as well and I expect plenty of disappointments but the one thing I really have learned thus far is unless you have good eggs to start with you better expect losses. I will do everything I can to avoid shipped eggs. Luckily I like driving. There will be a time where I simply have to have that certain breed but until then, I will chose local chickens (not more than a 400 mile drive lol)

Here is a video of OffGridMama's new chickens

This Saturday I am doing a 250 mile circle of SoCal to get some eggs that I hope are all fertile. I will carry them on a 747 to Manila and aprox 30 hrs after i board i will rest them in my little beach house in the middle of nowhere. They will be set midnight Christmas Eve. The next step in getting the flock out of here.

I HAVE A BABY!!! (chick, lol)

I cant wait!

I could not believe the TJ eggs hatch either. I bought 2 dozen so I could see for myself - and to watch the processs of veining on white eggs, I had to ditch them after 8 days as I was going into lockdown and I would be out of country when they hatch. I had 18 of 24 viable. They were 12 days old and chilled to 40 degrees for most of that. The ones that did not develop had poor sloppy air sacks.
Next time will be in a home made bator. The 2 hovabators are packed for their 7290 mile flight on saturday.
