Humidity Obsessed

I think that because ambient humidity in the room is high (85%), having the vents open should allow more room air to enter and keep the humidity up inside.

Yes, everyone's situation is different. In my room the humidity is about 20-30%. lol

...thats really sort of funny you NOW worry and didnt before...I thi k we all worry because at the end its crucial to get it close to right anyway so you dont have a sticky chick or worse ....shrink wrapped.Worry you will screw it up the last day or 2
Most all of us are in the same boat as we most all have non pro models of incubators which dont have a humidity regulator .I am always debatng myself higher ?lower? dry? Can iget a BETTER hatch?But,,,, GEEZ you do get obcesssive over it.

I just set 70 "American laid" eggs in the Philippines 2 days ago. We are in the midst of a tropical storm with ambient humidity at 100. The bator is running 55%.

Hopefully the air will dry a bit when the storm passes.

hahahah...

so im not the only one.... i bought a really cheap hygrometer , the only one i could find in jerusalem it seems, but husband is convinced that it is not working... while i was thinking that our incubator was on 34 celsius according to the hygrometer, the candy thermometer says 36 something... so we've upped the temp a bit more and now its at 37 c. ithink the hygrometer is working we just have to calibrate and subtract /add the deviation....

so this batch wont work due to playing too much , but the hens keep laying and no one is brooding for some reason so will collect and set again , this time double calibrating...

its kind of like not trusting your equipment, and iknow lots of people htat are lots less scientific then me but manage to succeed. it always reminds me of all those ultra yuppy style people with all the advanced equipment for their dog/baby/goat/car but when something goes wrong, th;ey cant manage, whereas us with the not so techno equipment manage with chewing gum and wire and things work...

so here's hoping...

will try the salt calibration test today, but i dont have a ziplock baggie, will a regular plastic box or lunch baggy work?

When I did mine, I just used a cheap thermometer and hygrometer form the pet store and buy rite which were reallllly cheap and I just hope they were reliable. LOL

No wonder only one hatched (some died while hatching though). I don't know what the salt test is, but I should probably check it out. XD

well, no zip lock bags in the kibbutz store so will ahve to go to town sat. nite or borrow or steal from someone...

the hygrometer was saying the humidity was 'wet' at 70% and rising, so the eggs are probably swimming or drowning in their shells.

and the eggs seem to be getting heavier ...
i suppose i could call the folks that sold the incubator to me (there are three people so far that i see selling this incubator here in this country and they all claim almost 100% success hahahaha.... but they themselves are professionals , as i see them on the israeli chicken forum... just sort of feel stupid asking them for help cause maybe they knew the incubators arent the best when they sold them and i feel a bit of a 'sucker' ... OTH, maybe im thinking too much and there is no sinister attitude behind the incubator and im jsut dumb for not asking....

ooof!! will call them for help and suggestions also...

and im resisting the urge to perform an eggtopsy to see if i should keep waiting... its almost as bad as waiting to see hubby's paycheck every month (always a surprise ,not always a good one)...

Hmm... Well I advise NOT to do the eggtopsy. Try and candle and see if there is any movement. What day are they at?
