what exactly are the humidity pads made of? are they worth using?

they are the paper strand thing like a humidifier has. They are too big to but in a little incubator, and there is really no need. If you have a larger incubator a dickey or sportman, then you will want to use something to wick the water up and make it evapotate faster.
