Which hovabator do you have? I have a 1588. I'm finding that I get better hatches running the humidity lower for the first 18 days, more like 30%. This last time I didn't even put water in the tray until day 18. I live in the upper midwest and it's neither particularly humid or dry here right now. I found another hygrometer at Walmart besides the digital one. It was in the same section, it's brown plastic with a regular thermometer and the hygrometer at the bottom. It's easy to overlook. I like it ok. It's inexpensive and very easy to calibrate. I'm going to order a more expensive one eventually, but this is doing well for now.

I have the 1620N Hovabator whts the diff between yours and mine? I had hubby install a fan in mine cos it was still air
