Scenario:
Running a Hovabator 1602N with fan installed. Day 7 but still
Trying to keep humidity under control between 35 and 45%.
I’m finding it will randomly drop by quite a bit.

The room temp ranges from
50-55% (in basement).

So I didn’t want to fill the tray 1 completely as I was worried it would Skyrocket and drown them.

Question: if I fill tray 1 vs. Just adding water daily to keep humidity consistent, will that force humidity to jump significantly or does the humidity % calculate off of the surface of the water in the tray?

Yes, humidity is affected by the surface area of the water in the tray.

Making the water deeper should not change the humidity, although it will let you go longer between top-ups, because the tray will not get empty as often. (Exception: if the tray gets wider as it goes up, then making it more full would also give it more surface area, which would raise the humidity. But most incubators seem to be designed with straight-sided water trays.)
