Humm, a hawk?

Are you all thinking one of these predators can literally go get whatever is sitting atop an 8' chain link fence? Of course if it's an owl the answer is a yes, but a coon? I'm still hoping the danger except in the case of the owl would be limited to the turkey or whatever not being atop the fence, like coming down outside the fence "voluntarily".

Yes a coon will take birds from a 8 ft. fence, or even high in a tree.

Coons are able to get in most pens, if not they will pull birds to the fence and eat what they can thru.

Had one get under a quail pen,and ate the legs off my white Bobwhites. Wire was 1/2 square.

I agree with the coon idea... if the bird fights a coon, feathers will be EVERYWHERE. And coons can work in teams to take out dozens of birds in one night, or just take one. They can climb a fence and get on roof tops so a chain link fence would be like climbing a step stool.

Sorry for the loss.

That's quite bad news as I have some on the fence tonight and even two on top of the chicken house.

Very awful about something chewing the legs off the Bobwhites, too - how low can an animal go?
