Humming hen--whats up?

My guess (since you haven't introduced any new birds nor have the neighbors) is she got something up her nose. One of my girls will sneeze and makes humming noises (has for over a year now) and after worrying it was IB, etc, we noticed it is most common after she was ravishly pecking at something on the ground...our suspicion is she is so excited over her new found treat that she snorts dirt.

I have one that does that all the time and I mean constantly. She's always been that way. I worried about her when she was young, but 3 years later I don't even notice it anymore, although anyone that sees the chickens for the first time ask what she's doing. I always just figured she was the most vocal of my birds.

I have been searching through the posts looking for answers. I have a Cuckoo Maran that is doing this exact thing. She started this morning. She seems fine, however is walking around humming all morning. I feel a little better seeing this video and reading these posts. I hope she is not sick and just likes to hum as do the birds you are talking about. She is super friendly and one of my favorites. I'm so happy this site is here. It helps us newbies.

I have a several hens that walk around doing that...I really never thought about it. I figured they were just sort of talking to me while I do my chicken chores. Glad to hear it's nothing to worry about. I've had them more than a year and they never seemed sick.
