Hunched over chicken

Awww well it's always nice to see a ill chicken acting better, hope she feels better soon,

What I would do in a case like that is feed her special, lap time, etc. Feed her things she wants like you are, look at how she is roosting at night, check her vent, look for mites, check in her mouth/beek and give her rest time if needed apart from others (but only a small time away)

:hugs

She's not roosting with the others. She is usually on a roost by herself. At least it starts that way and then at some point another one will join her during the course of the night. I'm just worried because it's supposed to be 39F tonight. I don't want her to be so cold :( She's always been low on the pecking order.

I've always had pets growing up but for the first time I feel so completely lost and helpless with chickens. Anyone else I know with chickens thinks of them as only food and the first sign of sickness, they cull the chicken. They don't understand that they are my pets as well as egg providers.

Will she be ok on the roost alone? I'm sorry if I sound like a worrywart. It's just my first time dealing with any issues with them and with the cold weather.

She will be fine at that temperature with her feathers. You might want to eventually lengthen your top rail of your roost to make room for all. There is always one at the bottom of the pecking order unfortunately.

I'm assuming she'll eventually sit down to cover her legs. Ok, I'm going to be worried about her but chickens do this. I might separate her tomorrow while I'm at work.

I was actually going to lengthen the roost today, but then she got sick and I was busy with her all day.

Thank you...I really and truly appreciate everyone's help. It is easing my mind.

I was under the impression that they lose a lot of heat through their legs since they are not covered in feathers. Wouldn't she lose a bunch of heat just sleeping standing up? Am I being a ridiculously paranoid chicken mom? If I am, please tell me.

She'll be fine, you are being a tiny bit paranoid but we all get like that sometimes.:)
