Hundreds torn apart! (and boy are my hands tired) Graphic Pic!

We had to fight the birds for our cherries when we lived in WA.

Not this year, the birds are getting all they want and so are we. We'll save the fighting for next year.

Decided the gooseberries can wait until tomorrow to get picked, I'm too pooped today. Did pick the raspberries, but just keeping them in the fridge for today.​

i planted two pretty new lil cherry trees this spring..

the deer said they were delicious..

That is so frustrating. We would have had twice the number of raspberries this year if the rabbits hadn't eaten half the canes this spring. There wasn't much else for them to eat at the time. (This winter I think I'll fence that patch off.)

Maybe you could try a repellent like soap or garlic on the branches...​

the deer don't care.. we've tried soap.. pie tins.. bone meal mixed with dried blood.. commercial deer repellant.. pinwheels... even our dogs don't faze them...
they have eaten three new pecan trees.. two baby apple trees.. two baby plum trees and the two new cherry trees.. I was filling the horse trough yesterday morning.. one doe jumped the fence and came within 5 feet of me waiting for me to get finished so she could get a drink... her three buddies stood at the fence leaning over it waiting as well... with the drought they have gotten braver.. and my fruit trees were just too hard for them to pass up...

Wow, determined little buggers. How about some plain old wire fencing around each tree? Or big ugly orange plastic fencing? Maybe if they can't see the trees they won't work so hard to get to them.

Good thing we caught the cherry season over here. Apparently a late spring frost made the season short but we picked about 10 lbs. of cherries (Tetons and Utah Giants, with the Utah Giants being my favorite) - about $28. We also ate a bunch while picking, but that was encouraged. The Bings weren't even ripe yet so we didn't get to those. Oh they were the most delicious cherries I ever had.
