We have over 20 laying hens that produced 15-16 eggs per day. When we were hit with the hurricane they stopped laying. It has been over 2 months and they are still not laying but 1 or 2 eggs per day. Is there anything we can do to get them to start laying again? Is it possible they may not go back to producing?
The stress of the storm plus a possible molt and shortened day length are very likely all factors causing the slow down. Providing supplemental lighting to increase their 'day length' to 14 hours should help. Even without supplemental lighting they will lay once again - may not be until spring, but they will lay again.
