Hurricane preparations (just in case!)

I'm putting mine in the garage, my husband put up a folding gate between the driveway and back fence, we're going to use that to pen them up in the corner of the garage, they will have plenty of room there, and the 2 smaller chickens I'm introducing to the flock, can be put in the dog kennel... if it gets too bad, I'm gonna have to pack up the kids and the dog and hope for the best

I'm within 45 minutes of projected NC landfall. Really worried about my girls. They have a sturdy coop... but, is it hurricane-proof? They have a small run underneath the coop, & we've semi-enclosed the coop/smaller run into a larger run (see pics)-- just the back can be accessed for egg collection. Do I close the small run door & leave the chicken door open so girls can get underneath coop? Is it safer to just shut them up in the coop completely? Do I put the plexiglass back into the windows in the eaves (that now just has welded wire)? What about the heat inside the coop multiplied by their body heat, especially if we lose electricity? Do I put my rehab girl inside the larger coop with the 8 other girls & hope she doesn't get re-injured (lost an eye)? The rehab coop that she uses is nowhere close to safe for her during this storm. I have to work tomorrow (at least so far, we've received nothing about closures at my job).

No basements in this sandy part of NC. No garage-- just open carport. Very small house... we downsized last year when my husband retired. Very worried about my girls.... Anybody been through similar situation, who might have suggestions? Thank you!

Your run is so beautiful, but I would get carriers or cages and bring your girls into the house with you. It isnt for too long and it could save their lives. I lived in a small house when Iwa went over us, and we spent it hunkered down in the hall, pets and all. No hens then, thank goodness! Every louver spit water and every out building and some neighbors houses were gone after.
Also store water as it can be off for awhile.

I've seen hurricanes do weird stuff too. When I was a little girl in Corpus Christi, Hurricane Carla came through and did millions in damage all over but some loose boards I'd set in a tree as the beginnings of a "tree house" were untouched. Just can't ever tell what they'll do.
