Hurricane season 2024

Oh, I get it... I used the ZoomEarth to look at the wind speeds.
All of our wind is coming from North/Northeast. The front of the RV is facing into it. It's no wonder it felt less gusty this time with Milton than with the more distant Helene which gave us winds from the Southeast and East, some of which beat on the side of the RV. So no wonder.
It's confusing being on the opposite side!

Between 3-4 am we may get up to 67mph... right now it says 65mph. So it's just like going down the highway!

I've seen two flashing transformers with the telltale noise in the distance, and heard one big crash about 10 minutes ago that could have been a tree over near the neighbors.

Is it too early for humor?

Well it's totally died down here, ahead of schedule. I've been nursing a headache and ear ache due to the pressure all night and I want to go lie down so bad. Hopefully it's all petered out and I won't wake up to Mom in a panic for some reason 😋

So far what I've seen on the weather pages overnight is a LOT of folks saying this was the worst and/or weirdest wind from a hurricane they had ever experienced. So many saying it was loud, banshee like, and constant. They couldn't sleep from the noise. I must have read at least a hundred comments on Mike's Weather Page saying the same thing, and they were far-ranging.
I really hope the morning news is not too horrid 😟

Well, you never know!

I was watching a series on disasters (The End is Nye) and it featured one I'd never really heard about... the Dust bowl. Just how awful that was and that it could potentially happen again in the near future because of that enormous aquifer getting low due to intensive farming. It runs under you I think.
Sorry, this is totally OT. But it seems like there's a potential disaster for everywhere :(
Disasters are kinda everywhere. I had family that went though that and it forced a move to Texas three generations of family ago.

I would expect the wind to feel or not seam normal. The storm moving that fast doesn't down grade as quickly as a slow moving one. So with that you keep the hurricane force winds as it moves across FL instead of going down to tropical storm or depression winds. The wind pictures show that happening. We don't have that happen very often so its strange feeling and sounding.
