HI! My name is Ron, or Big Ron from North Carolina. I live on some acreage with a lake for many years.
The Canadian geese have always been a problem ruining my lake, but I have a
large one that is hurt. I hate to see any animal suffer.

The goose wobbles when it is standing. It haves a hard time walking. It walks like something is broken or sprained. The left foot is slightly bent inward, but both feet are spread apart more than normal. The leg is not broken that I can see. It is pooping and I have been feeding it. It stays away from the lake and I bring it food and water. This has been going on maybe a week. It seems to be putting up with the jury, and mostly sitting. It will not walk far.

Is this likely to heal itself? Does anyone know what could be wrong?
I appreciate it. As much as I hate the Canadians on my lake, I do not want any animal to suffer.

Thanks for your help. Big Ron

I’m not sure what could be wrong. I would recommend calling a wildlife rehabilitation center or a local waterfowl or bird rescue and see if they can help. A predator could find the goose as an easy meal since the goose won’t go into the lake. I would call a wildlife rehabilitation center or waterfowl/bird rescue. They should be able to answer your questions and help the goose. Thank you for caring about the goose.

Call your local game warden and he will come and get the goose and take it to a Rehabilitator. That’s all you need to do for now but keep an eye on it Ron and call warden as soon as you can

I will do that tomorrow. Thank you

Yeah i dont trust people. I've read a lot that they take these geese and euthanize them. I rescued a goose and he's the love of my life. I wish i was closer. I would have taken him in a heartbeat.

Hi BigRon! I know this is an older question but I coincidentally help a lot of my neighbours with their Canadian Geese issues. Please google geese prevention methods. All kinds of helpful tips can be found. About the sick goose...this fellow will need to be caught. Before that you may want to call around to local wildlife rescue and rehabs to see if they have room for your sick goose. Ive been doing rehab for years and leg issues can be fixed. I would take an old blanket and after you feed it throw the blaanket over it. Try to tuck in its wings and put him in a rubbermaid tote or old dog crate if you have one. I personally hate to see injured animals as well and have found that my wolf sized cut outs, the lighting systems and several other predator looking cutouts have helped best. Remember though they are smart and moving decoys around is helpful. They are lovely animals but a pure nuisance. I hope that this helps or that you have found another way to keep them off of your pond. All the best.
