Hurt Quail

Over the weekend I went out of town. When I came back I saw my quail had a hurt toe. He was bleeding and I didn’t know how to stop it. I took him out of his cage and brough him inside to clean his toe up. I thought that was enough but this morning I went out to it still bleeding. Any advice?

Do you have a bit of styptic powder? That should stop the bleeding. Otherwise, wrap it up with something that will put some pressure on it, but not for too long. You want to stop the bleeding, but not cut off circulation.

I don’t but I do have cornstarch. It’s directly on his toe though, so I don’t know how well to wrap it around him.

If you have any in future who have a hard time being held in the cornstarch, you can get a small tub, so they fit with only little room to move, and pop him in there a few mins ontop of the cornstarch. So he walks around in it. I have one, i handled them ever since they came out of the shell, and he HATES being picked up, so that is the easiest way to deal with him
