Hybrids...................................

In the chicken world the term Hybrid is often used for describing mixed breeds. However, for scientific purposes you are correct hybrids are the crossing of mixed species usually resulting in infertile offspring

According to the dictionary definition the term hybrid includes the offspring of different races, breeds, varieties, species or genera [genus]. So you see it's not as narrrow as you've defined it.

wow folks
hybrid can mean one of several things as the dictionary definition states, broad or narrow depending on whomever is using the term so words have meaning in context dependent on who you are and how you are using them. they don't need to be two different things to produce a hybrid like a serval and a domestic cat producing a savannah hybrid cat but if you look at orchids you will see many are not only specific hybrids(different species) but generic hybrids (different genera) and multiple hybrids of both, essentially all hybrids are mutts as mutt is a coloquial term for hybrid so relax. K lets stay friendly here it's not that important.

The definition out of a dictionary is going to vary from a scientific term. However, just like albinism there are different kinds of hybrids. Wolf Dogs for instance are often call Wolf Hybrids. However, this term is no longer used by Breeders or Scientists due to the fact both are still Canis Lupus. Though I don't see why this section seems to be so cut throat about being "right" about terminology

Looked it up, here's what I got..... A hybrid chicken is the result of a cross between two or more breeds.

What about a hybrid chicken that was a hybrid of two different species of chicken, say a red jungle fowl and a grey jungle fowl would that be considered a hybrid ?

Now Hybrid fish on the other hand don't reproduce.

guess that would depend on if it were a hybrid between two species or a hybrid between two breeds or varieties, the latter two would be fully fertile and viable ... and some specific(as referring to multiple species)hybrid fish do reproduce well . Hybrids between various species of Mollies, Swordtails, Platies and Guppies exist and reproduce well in the average aquarium(these are muti-generic as well as multi-specific hybrids), Parrot cichlids( A tilapia "red devil" X Convict cichlid) reproduce, Brown discus and red discus and green discus hybrids, scalare and altum angelfish hybrids all reproduce, I'm sure there are many other examples. Are you speaking of triploid browns?
