These two tests check the hygrometer at 95-100% Rh and at 75% Rh.
95-100%
- wrap the hygrometer in a very damp [but not wringing wet] hand towel.
- put the whole thing into a gallon zip lock bag,
- After ~8 hours, check the reading . . . it should be about 95~100%
75% "Salt Test"
- fill a clean cap [ from a 2 liter soda bottle] with house hold table salt.
- add enough distilled water to the salt to form a watery salt paste.
- put this cap and the hygrometer into a zip lock bag
- After ~8 hours it should be about 75% Rh
