My husband and I retired last year and live in a little cabin in the woods in North Central Mississippi. I have wanted to have chickens for the past several years and did a lot of research to figure out what was involved.

We finally have our 8 acres laid out and I decided now was the time. I purchased a prefab chicken coop to get started and spoke in depth with a young lady whose family runs a vegetable garden stand near us. She showed me her layout of chickens and had answered a lot of my questions plus I am the proud owner of Raising Chickens for Dummies.

Yesterday, we picked up three Red Sex Links from a local farmer.

I’m excited about caring for these birds and having the fresh eggs. I have a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat and am providing for many other animals on our place - amphibians, birds, mostly.

Im also am avid cross stitcher and love to read. My husband and I have two Blue Heelers - Zip and Rebel.

I found BYC by reading my Dummies book and learning about Rob Ludlow there. I waited until I actually had chickens before joining.
