I’m Already “One of Those”

Hi, everyone! We are brand new to the world of chickens, but I am already “one of those” chicken owners, lol. (Taking a million pics, telling chickie stories, wondering which bugs they’ll like the best...!)

We got 6 baby egg layers from Tractor Supply on May 21 - besides being girls (we hope) we have no clue what kind we got. Coop (all gray, does her own thing, doesn’t really care to hang out with the other chickens when they’re acting all juvenile. She doesn’t have time for that.) Frick and Frack (they’re yellow and by the look of their incoming feathers, are the “oldest.” They’re the terroristic tiny pterodactyls and are Me Firsters.) Sunny, Dip and Po (named after egg dishes - SUNNY side up, DIPpy eggs, POached eggs) are the little brown/gold sweethearts and are obviously the youngest.

Now to my first of undoubtedly a million questions ... Dip, Po and Coop are our “snuggle chickens” though I try to hold each one for a few minutes every day. These 3 though, when held, will “snuggle up” and go right to sleep. (Tops is about 20 minutes.) Will this cause problems with the flock down the road? Will the others see them as the “teacher’s pet” and cause them to eventually be shunned? (When one is snuggling, the others go to “the pile” and snuggle with each other. Except Coop - she’d rather the other chickies leave her alone.)

The hubby says I worry to much, lol ... but I don’t want to be the eventual cause of some pecking order issues!

Welcome to BYC, TBlevins! There is so much to see, do, and learn here!:welcome I don't think handling some of the chicks more than others will cause any problems--at least it hasn't in my flock. When my chickens were young a couple of them loved to jump onto my arm or lap, whereas a few of the others were quite flighty or just never took to the idea. They have never had any conflicts about it, though. :) Any pictures of your chooks?

I so hope not! I find them so dang sweet when they snuggle up for a nap!! ❤️ (And of course, they get so comfy, they then poop in my hand ... 🙄😂) And I “only” have like a thousand pics and videos already ...
(The first pic is everyone having a little “breakfast” - I get them a clump of sod and they have a blast!!)
(The second is Coop preparing to be my snuggle chicken.)
