My broody hen has been sitting on an egg for 21 days as of tomorrow. The egg biologically belongs to my two silkies but we moved it under her since we had already removed her eggs and they weren’t fertilized. She is my only full sized chicken. I have 6 other bantys including 2 roosters. Should I remove her or just see what happens? She is pretty feisty and could probably defend the chick but I dont want to stress her out. I plan on picking up a second chick on friday and I have another egg under her that I will replace with the chick. Could I just put a kennel in the coop and keep everyone in that so theres less integration? I know with the new chick I am buying I should keep her out for 4 weeks but I have had chickens in my house a lot in the last few months and I am not keen to do it again, however my house raised chicks are all really tame so i’m not totally opposed to it.

Just be prepared in case she doesn’t accept the new chick. Do it at night!

The broody can fend for herself so you can house them with the rest of the flock as long as you give her some space that no one can bother her in.

No hatch yet today. I picked the egg up and heard nothing, felt nothing. The other one looks good and there is movement inside but I have no idea how long its been incubating so it will be a surprise!
