I have been working on an exciting project for the past two years, focusing on crossbreeding chickens and Guinea fowl. Out of 60 eggs, I successfully produced one fertile egg, which hatched into a beautiful hybrid chicken. This unique bird exhibits features of both a Guinea hen and a chicken. As a chick, it appeared to be an unusual-looking Guinea hen, but as it matured, it grew into a female hen capable of laying fertile eggs.
Using a purebred rooster (named Secret), I have managed to successfully hatch one chick from these fertile eggs. However, it is challenging to obtain a good clutch of eggs because the hybrid hen lays only once every two days.
The primary goal of this crossbreeding project is to combine the tick-eating characteristic of Guinea fowl with the quieter nature of chickens and most importantly disease resistance. This hybrid aims to benefit from the best traits of both species, creating a more efficient and less disruptive poultry option.
Which signs shown in mother and chick.
My hybrid hen is about a year and 6 months old.
