She should be securely cooped at night but if she's a tree hugger it will be hard to convince her of that fact.

I’m also reluctant to lock her up as she and the roosters have spent most of their lives in small runs with no sunlight. She deserves her freedom. We live in the San Francisco Bay Area the weather is almost never a problem, so I’m not in a hurry

Yes, company would make her happy. I agree with the above posts, a coop would help too.

I’m going to do a bit of research before deciding on type of roommate and type of coop
