I agree very well put.oh boy...I can think back on many times through out my life where accidents had happened. I always try to find the positive in it there always is a positive, some lesson learned something in it. The little one didn't die without purpose in my eyes and I think its beautiful that even though it was intended for food it didn't take away from the fact that you did not intend for it to go at that moment or in such a way. Another positive was clearly it was a quick death...that's something to be grateful for. I wish some people saw this side of those that raise animals for meat. And they say we cannot love animals if we eat them this is proof. It's a life regardless and is to be respected and you did just that. *hugs*
This says what I intended to express, but more eloquently, so thanks, @Geminiki! I've made fatal mistakes myself, and know others that have also. It's hard to get over, but we learn from it, and have to move on. Hugs.oh boy...I can think back on many times through out my life where accidents had happened. I’m sorry. It’s not your fault though.Unfortunatly, the same just happend to me... With a five mounths old golden Comet. I was coming down the stairs from the Coop with a pack of straw when i noticed ive steped on something, instantly moved the foot away, but the mistake was done, She did not stand up again, and i saw blood coming out of her beak. She just moved her wings... Must have steped on her neck or head...
Please don't be too hard on yourself. These things happen. We live and learn and get better with experience.Reading all the responses lifts my spirit a little. I too killed a small chick today, I stepped on it accidentally it was only about 3 weeks old and was beautiful. I feel like I'm not a good keeper of chickens as this one is the second one to die in my care in less than 2months.
Since ive had this kind of accident 20 days ago, when im walking around chickens, i drag my feet close to the ground instead of walking normaly. With small chicks i always put them in a cage at a higher level, until they are older. Please don't be too hard on yourself. These things happen. We live and learn and get better with experience.![]()
