I accidentally killed one of my chicks.

Thank you all! It's such a comfort knowing I can come here where people understand.
I too accidentally killed a beautiful baby chick. I can not let the horror out of my mind. I accidentally cracked the egg and when I tried to patch it, my broody hen would not accept it. Devastating when these things happen. We all have the best intentions here. The worst learning experience. My thoughts are with you.
to the little ones that pass over.

I am so sad and devastated. I had a 7 day old chick with pasty butt that I was trying to check. I usually do it at night but the mama and babies were in an enclosure so I thought I'd just quick grab it, look at his butt and let it go. He got away from me so I went after him and one of the others ran toward me instead of away without my realizing the shift and I stepped on it. I don't want to be graphic but I had to kill it to put it out of it's misery. It was horrible an I just can't get past it tonight.
Sorry to hear about your sadness, but stuff happens - especially with livestock, learn from your experiences and try to put a positive outlook onto this. You can dwell upon it or move on and learn from it, think what you would do differently next time. I am sure you are doing this though!

All life is a learning experience, sometimes 'life' is a four-letter word, but dwelling on the negative is not the way to go about things. I like to tell people everything I have learnt in my life I have learnt from my horses! It really is amazing when you think about it how dealing with livestock can be put into practice when dealing with people!
