My quail started laying eggs and since I had nothing else to do with the eggs I decided to maybe try to create a makeshift incubator with stuff I had laying around the house. I got 2 plastic shoeboxes, filled the bottom one with water and put in my old aquarium heater then set the other shoebox ontop of the one with the water, put a lid on and monitored the temperature. It was running in the low 80s so I added my brooder lamp. I decided to go ahead and set the eggs and see what happened. I have been able to keep the humidity between 52 and 65% but my temperature has fluctuated about 5 degrees regularly, tho staying around 101, however it has gotten as low as 88 and as high as 113 (My air conditioner is also currently broken so that seems to add some fun) Last night was day 19 for one of the eggs that actually had candled totally dark and at 2am I noticed a little pip! by 3:30 it was zipping and I had a baby when I woke back up at 5 am (couldn't sleep well because I was so excited one was actually pipping !) I have a couple more that have all been set a day apart that are developing dark so will see if anymore hatch or not! here are some pics !! I swear it is the cutest lil buggar !!!!
