I also yell "HELP"-have an egg, 19 days into brood(possibly 20) that was pipping yesterday and this

OK-Now my extreme ignorance shows(like it didn't already). I have never seen the yolk when they were hatching(mama always took care of it) so hopefully I can find a pic on here to let me know what it looks like(I know what yolks look like so I really sound dumb now) OK-calm down. I will go out now and try to examine more closely. ty.

the yolk is the last thing to recede

it will be absorbed by the chick into its abdomen

once that is done it can hatch and not before as it will likely die of secondary infection

candle the egg and you should see a hollow area to indicate its absorbed

if its not absorbed then the area will be dark

but as you say the egg is broken try look inside the egg from the break to see if you can see the yolk absorbed or not

you should either see a yolk

or you should see the chicks belly

if you cant see either then your view is obscured

I Thank you extremely and now I will beg forgiveness of my panick. CHICK HAS HATCHED. I have never seen a hatch like that and oh well-live and learn. Forgive me and I will go away now. TY again. I have more gray hair.

I would , no doubt, drive everybody nuts with my obvious rambling issues. Anyhoo its the next evening and another chick hatched out this a.m. Theres 1 egg left and learned from last years hatch(horribly learned) that eggs may hatch up to 3 days after initial hatch. Thank you again and I had prepped myself(grew some) to do what I had to last night so glad i didn't have to play doctor.
