I am actually not a chicken. I am one ancient of days who has raised chickens in the distant past. I am now interested in raising a couple of hens (city limits) for fresh eggs. Thought Buff Orpingtons would be the way to go as they are not as feisty as Rhode Island Reds. Any thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks in advance for any such.

Welcome to BYC! Yes, in my experience, Buff Orpingtons are much nicer than Rhode Island Reds. They are the golden retrievers of the poultry world....
Good luck, let us know what you get!

BOs are nice easy going girls. No need to limit yourself to one breed. It's fun to have a colorful flock and egg basket. What over breeds catch your eye?

Buffs are wonderful hens! Mine tend to go broody about once a year and their egg production slows down in the winter, some of my others continue to lay. Great all around bird though and very friendly.
    Best wishes! :frow

Buff Orpington's go broody from time to time, which means if they have fertile eggs put under them, they will hatch them and raise as their own.
