I am a new chicken owner

I just recently got into chickens. I have 6 RIR chicks and 2 maran chicks... super excited!!

I am hoping I don't have a rooster on of my RIR's are pretty mean "she" was following my hang and pecking me I went to hold her and she wouldn't let me. The RIR's are suppose to be hens I can't wait though I am so happy

Females can be mean also, it's not really a gender thing.

Just because a chicken is male, doesn't mean that he will be mean. And visa versa. Just because a chicken is female doesn't mean she won't be mean. It all depends on the individual.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. Rhode Island Reds are sometimes aggressive, especially the hatchery grade birds. I love the chocolate eggs of the Marans.
