Hello every one.
I have heard about this forum and hope that I can be of some help to breeders on this forum
I amd the pas edito- publisher of National Poultry News. I wrote and published it nationally for 27-1/2 yrs
I have raised almost all breeds and found the fun and enjoyment of breeding excellent show quality birds
my fore most breed was cochin frizzles, along with regular cochins, modern game bantams, cornish bantams, plus at one time or another we had lots of large fowl and bantam ducks
We would hatch 3500 birds a yr and keep only 175 over winter and breed them in the spring. I was interested in 4-Hers having good stock and other breeders having good stock
I grew up in the 30'- thru 54 and started butchering chickens since I was loaned out to the neighbor ladies to do their butchering also.
I grew up on a very working farm so know the pleasure of having good chickens to lay the eggs. Selling eggs and cream on saturdays to the feed store was my mothers money to buy groceries etc.
Milking cows and taking care of 500 hens daily before going to school at 8 am to walk 1/2 mile to school plus straighting up the house for my mother and making us kids lunch.
I raised my children to help with this also.
instead of milk cows we had lots of purebred chickens and rabbits.Of which I had a route for butchered chickens and rabbits.
Money was very important to help my children get the clothes and things for school.
Well then in 70's I started the NPN and love going to chicken shows and taking photos of the chicken show people. I quit showing chickens when in 80's I started taking ads for the NPN, noy wanting to show against my advertisers.
Also I washed and dried the chickens that were shown. Using my kitchen to put papers down and chickens under clothes baskets to dry off.
You start with the darkest colored ones on friday befor the saturday week show.
There was a lot of cleaning out of chicken pens, feeding and brooding the birds. All of this fell on me as I was very peticular of how my chickens were taken care of
I am a great believer in the natural probiotics for healthier chickens.
I love to answer chicken questions and have a lot of information stored on my web site
