I am getting 10 day old chicks tomorrow- broody walls??

I am getting 10 day old chicks tomorrow- I have a 3'x5' box already- the sides are chicken wire - do I need to have higher wood on the sides?

Do you have a photo of your brooder? Does it have a secure lid or cover to prevent fly outs? Is this going to be indoors or outdoors?

It is in the garage, predator proof with a screen cover

I put mine in a crate at first to prevent fall outs. I would maybe do the same. Heres another thought, have a large dog pen and have the crate in there, that way they have the option to exist and enter and food isn’t in the nesting area, thats also what i did. Worked well for both of my broody hens.

If you can get the picture onto your PC, right click on it and select copy. In a new reply box here right click and select paste. That will add your photo to your post.

As long as it's securely covered the height generally isn't much of an issue, as they can't fly out.
