I am getting impatient..should I help? Can't stand it much longer....

My husband is far more impatient than I.... he cracked the shell a little bit, right where the chick would zip.... maybe just a half or whole inch of help. He didnt read the posts, he did this while I was occupied by another problem. Do you think the chick will be ok?

Oh, everything is ok. I have not seen the chick yet because I am leaving the stressed mom alone. But I found the empty shell infront of the nest. Things are good! This will be the last chick hatch, the mom needs to get up and care for her babies.

I have chicks die after pipping every hatch. Some even completely cut the shell. I've helped a few out, having some servive. I lose a few each hatch tho. The pheasants seemed to be affected even more,by what ever I'm doing wrong. Most had curled toes. Do I need higher humidity? I bought 15 silkie eggs with 7 being fertile. I want this last hatch to do better then the rest. Can anyone HELP?

I also would love and answer to why some died after pipping or even zipping.
This last hatch I had 3 pipped and 1/2 day after the others were out. I waited and 2 died. I could not stand it on the last one so I "helped". So 24 hours after the last chick hatched by itself I helped the pipped one out. Now it is a strong and healthy chick.
I feel bad for all the ones I left alone now that died on all the other hatches.

Is there a set amount of time that some of the experienced hatchers wait before helping?
