I am having my chickens carve the pumpkin this year!

Hi All!

I am the proud chicken momma of 9 hens, we have 6 little girls that are almost 5 months. To entertain and help get them into the Halloween season I decided to let them carve this years jack o' lantern! I saw this on the internet and thought it would be some good healthy fun.

First I got a pumpkin from the supermarket and gave them a general guideline for a spooky face!


Then I let the girls explore and get their creative juices flowing- here Olivia Jade inspects her canvas and tastes it too!

Lucille Roberts has the right idea by standing on the pumpkin- Lo Bosworth and Luna Lovegood look on as Lucille and OJ dominate

I've tried this in the past! My chickens don't tend to follow my outlines, though, so I'd just end up with a big, gaping hole in one side and maybe a somewhat discernible face if I caught it early enough. But the chickens have fun eating it and it was exciting to see how the pumpkin evolved over time as they pecked it. Anymore, I just put whole pumpkins in there and let them eat it as they see fit. Their favorites are these big white pumpkins we get from a local orchard, as they tend to have softer rinds to peck through.

Cuteness- I went out to sneak a look at their masterpiece.. there is a giant hole in the mouth too lol!!
