I am just wondering why so many people do not do a little research before setting their first batch of eggs..

by the time you set your eggs, you should have the bator running for at least a day and have the temp and humidity stabilized..

you should have your bator tested out long before you order eggs.. when the eggs arrive is not the time to be setting up your bator..

there is plenty of information on this thread to cover all of your questions.. some good, some not, but all is better than going at it blind..

I think people assume its going to be easy, so they are excited and rush in, and once in, realize there is a little more to it than meets the eye. Its really is just like anything else in life,Driving,Marriage, kids, new credit cards. The saying goes:"Fools Rush In". Life is a learning experience.Good thing theres a website like this to help those who"rush in"to the Chicken Fast lane.No ones perfect I guess:)

I've often wondered the same myself ...but, I assume that you, like myself, will research something to death & then jump in...am I right?

Not all are like us...I think it's just excitement!

I have to say that i am a research nut - and a first time incubator/hatcher - trust me that bator ran for a week before i set eggs and i read everything - well and still do - that i could get my hands on!

I always do tons of research or googling about things before i do them....... and then i second guess myself. I think alot of people do that. They know the answer but ask again once they start their project because they start doubting themselfs.
I think with incubating when you read theirs so many varying opinions on things also, that its easy to wonder if you misunderstood what you read because you suddenly find another thread saying something different in terms of hummidity and such.

I So Agree With Nifftiness!! I Did Lots Of Research - And Then Was Lost Because Of The Differences In Recommendations. Thanks To All You Good Folks At Byc, I And Most Of The Chicks Survived.

I will be one to admit, my first hatch was a 100% failure simply bc I did not research like I should. Then, I found this AMAZING site

And things have been wonderful and near perfect since

Just a lesson learned.

Love it. We RESEARCH everything before we do something we're not sure of.
It happens every year on BYC. Starts off wth... PO bashing, saving half dead chicks at TCC, how much room do chicks need, how to build a coop, when will my hens start laying, .etc. Its up to us to help all the newbies

I enjoy being helpful.
