I have 8 ducks and it’s my first go at ducks. It’s a mix from TSC. I have had half my ducks since July 30, 2024 and the rest throughout August and September. I believe 2 Rouens, 3 Pekin’s, an Indian Runner or Buff with a backwards leg, a brown runner and a black runner who has a crooked neck. Each time I went for chicken feed they showed me the ducks not healthy so I brought them home and a mate! Can yall help me figure out how to help OwFred be more of a duck?

Welcome. You are my hero of the day. Thank you for taking the not so healthy ones and giving them a life.

Did OwFred grow up with other ducks? Has he imprinted on humans or some other bird type that is making him act less like a duck? I am definitely not a Duck behavior expert, just trying to get some background on OwFred. He sounds cute. You could also post about him here in the Duck Forum.

Welcome to BackYard Chickens!
OwFred came with the Rouen I named Clyde but I believe it is a Claudia bc her quack is deep and so loud. They both let me cuddle and sing to them. OwFred had a backwards leg and no gets here will fix it or help him. He has gotten too big to hop on the good leg so he lays in the yard during the day waiting for me to move him next. He needs assistance to get places. He doesn’t make much noise so I guess he may be a he right? He’s so much smaller and skinny. I have tried numerous times to make a wheelchair and I fail! A chicken wheelchair is $500 so any advice to make something for him to get around would be great. He seems so lonely bc the other ducks stay away but they are not mean to him. Clyde will beak them away. She is mean to the crooked neck black duck but never to her partner.

No vets will help me besides suggesting putting him down but I’m not onboard. He just needs to be mobile. Here is him before he grew overnight with his best friend Clyde or Claudia and the baby chick that had a leg like his but she didn’t make it two days with us after TSC sent her with me.

Oh, I see, now my first post sounds silly but now I get it. You just want him to do normal duck things because his behavior is fine, he just needs a little help moving around. That makes sense. Thanks for telling us more about OwFred! It is really nice of you to give them a caring home!
