Hello all I am new here and just figured out how to post, but I have a question. I recently, five days ago, purchased some chicks from TSC and am wanting to purchase three more tomorrow. I am wondering if it would be ok to add them to my week old chicks, the new chicks will be roughly the same age.

! Pleased you joined us! I think you would be fine combining the two - with that little difference in age it shouldn't be a problem at all. In fact, today I put some two-day olds in with some two-week olds and there have been no problems. Good luck to you!!

Thanks! I figured I would be good, or rather they would, but just wanted to make sure. I live in Northwestern Indiana and have them in a brooder in the basement. I just built them a coop for when they go outside and decided today to get some Rhode Islands to add to the white pullets I got from TSC.

Hello from Oregon & welcome to BYC. Your chicks should do fine together.

Yay for baby chicks! I got my first chicks a week ago. A bit of an assortment. I'm surrogate mothering 2, one of them a maran keeps pecking the other chicks eyes. She been segregated! I keep trying to put her back in but she keeps doing it. Any suggestions?

Thanks everyone! Gothic Farmer, I would say you are doing the right thing. Keep her separated until the others are bigger and have formed a tight flock and then add her back in.

Thank you. She just seems so lonely! I feel bad. And I have a bufforpington that does not chirp!! She tries no noise comes out. 2 weeks old.

I just picked up three Rhode Island Red pullets from the hatchery and got home. I put the new chicks in a separate tub, then added the existing chicks in with them and changed the bedding and brooder around and put them all together, I don't even think they realized there are new chicks in with them. They are all running around and happy, happy, happy!
