We nested in the sand for a long time. Then I got up and started to scratch around.
'Grain! Come play with me!' I said.
'Maizie, I'm coming.' Grain cheered.
We kicked sand at eachother, and poked big creepy crawlers in the eyeballs. We giggled. The big creepy crawler struggled to get up, but we knocked him down again.
'Your not getting up!' We threatened, but laughed.
I looked around. There was a whole bunch more chicks. There was even boys!
Grain and I wondered around after our fun game of 'hurt-the-bug'. There was more big hens and roosters.
'Daddy! Daddy! Maizie and I poked the bugs eyeballs out! Hehehe! It was so funny!' Grain giggled.
'Ahh... The old game 'hurt-the-bug'. I used to play that when I was your age, Grain.' Grain's father commented.
'Really Daddy? You played that too? How cool! Maizie! Maizie! My Daddy used to play that game too!' Grain said happily.
'Cool! Daddy! Daddy! Did you used to play 'hurt the bug'?' I asked.
'Most certainly! That was the coolest game around, in my time.' My Daddy replied.
'Wow!' I was amazed.
Daddy started to fade. 'Daddy! Stay here with me!' He was out of sight. Grain, started to get fuzzy. 'No! Grain! Don't leave me!' She was gone. 'Mommy? Where are you? Mommy!' I couldn't find her. She must have gone too.
'Mr. Grain's Daddy! Where are you Mr. Grain's Daddy?' I caought him in the corner of my eye. I ran over to him.
'We don't want your kind here, but you haven't left us yet, so we, are leaving you.' Mr. Grain's Daddy replied.
'No! No! What did I do? Please don't leave me!' He was now, gone too.
All of the other Mommys and Daddys and chickies faded away. I was alone. The only one here. The blue sky turned grey, loud bangs came from the sky. It poured water. The green bushes were gone, the brown sand is now grey wire. It was very dark. I was soaked. Hard hail started coming from the sky. It hurt. Bolts of light shot down. I ran in circles, panicking.
'Wait! The coop!'
It was nowhere to be seen. It was pitch black, now. My feet hurt.
I awoke, sweating. 'No! Grain! Mommy! Daddy! Stay with me! What did I do to you?'
I got picked up and jammed into a cage. It was dark. I was frightened.
'Waaa... Waaa.... Where am I????'
'Your in the Pullet House! As well as all of us are.' A voice said.
'Grouchy? Is that you?' I trembled.
'Of course it is, stupid!' She said angrily.
'Oh! Grumpy! I thought I would never see you again! I'm so glad your smart!' I threw my wings around her.
'I'm.... I'm smart?'
'Of course you are! You told me that the oval, was really called an egg, and that where we are now, is called the pullet house... Your a genius!'
'Me? A genius? Of course I'm a genius! Your right, Clumsy! I am a genius!' Grouchy said, acctually cheerfully for a change.
