Chapter 10
'Wha... Wha... What... Was that?' Mary asked, scaredly.
'I don't know...' Alex replied.
'I said, how did you do that!!!' The same voice yelled again.
'Eeeeeeeeeeeeep!' Mary squealed.
'It's probably just another pullet.' Genius said, confidently.
'Hopefully. But what if it's a.... human?' I asked Genius.
'Chances are, that it isn't. I haven't seen one walk this hallway in weeks.'
'True...'
'But what if it is!' Mary blurted out.
'I ain't no human!' The voice yelled.
'See! It was just another hen...' Genius assured them.
'Okay... Whew... I got scared for a moment. Those horrible creatures! What jerks! What did we ever do to them?' Alex ranted.
'No need to rant right now, Alex. We have freedom, and we should use it wisely. Save the ranting for the cage... If we go back...'
'What do you mean? We aren't going back... Are we?' I asked sadly.
'I don't know for sure, May.' Genius admitted.
'I'm scared....'"
"What happens!?!" Lacey comments.
"You'll see tomorrow. It's bed time now. I've been telling you this for a long time." I say.
"Okay...." They sigh together.
"See.. There's the human, getting ready to lock us u for bed. We better get in the coop."
"Your right. Meet me on the roost!" Butter agrees. She runs over to the big, red and white coop, and steps inside. She goes up the stairs and hops onto a roost.
Maizie and Lacey run to the coop.
"Thanks for the story, Maizie." Lacey says. She runs up the stairs and hops onto a roost, right next to Butter.
I wait a moment, then I follow her up.
