I am now questioning our coop floor.

I have wire under my roost too.

Easy to rake the poop out from under the roots. With each new coop we tried to make the cleaning easier.

I'm with everyone else...replace the chickenwire on the bottom of the coop with solid flooring, replace the chicken wire outside with welded wire or hardware cloth ( ratwire ) and while it may seem fine right now, chicken wire cannot be buried...it rots. Rusts. Falls apart, and quickly. Useless stuff, really, except for dividing up insides of big coops.

This is so true. Chicken wire will rot faster than a pile of leaves. I called the maker of the 2X4 welded wire to see if I could bury it without all the rot. I was told the wire would last without any problem for at least 15 years. And even then any galvanize errosion would be so slow I probably be dead before it made any difference.

And lastly, the advice on chicken wire and predators is true. It that instance it's useless. May as well use a hula skirt curtain.
